A place for the overflow of all my little and big thoughts. (Basically, I don't know how to keep my mouth shut.)

New Name
I've changed the name of my blog because I can not only write about one thing. It's too boring. Not to mention, I do the same workouts pretty routinely. So, what's new? I've starting using My Fitness Pal, it's an app. on my phone and it's a great way to keep track of what I'm eating and how much I'm exercising. I recently went to an AMAZING Nutritional Seminar. I am changing the way I eat. I am also taking a shot of Bragg's apple cider vinegar. And I'm currently blogging because I'm trying to stall before taking it. It's so strong! I hate it! And yet... it's suppose to have so many amazing results, so I am giving it a fair shot. Ha, a fair shot... get it? It's suppose to be anti-inflammatory, oh my! I need that! Also, it's been two WHOLE days without milk for me. That is a big deal from this little lady over here. I love milk, I love cereal and milk, I love milk with peanut butter sandwiches, I love milk with cookies or pie. But, I've also not had any cereal, or cookies, or pie. I've been really good since I started keeping my food log and I'm really applying some of the things we learned at the nutritional seminary into my life. So what that looks like for me is eating my egg whites in the morning with tomato and red onions. It means adding more protein into my diet. It means taking my supplements, cutting out the dairy and wheat. One amazing thing I substituted thanks to the advice from this seminar is Spelt tortillas instead of flour or corn. OH MY... can yummy! I love it. I can only find it at Whole Foods though. None of the other grocery stores seem to carry it. I love Whole Foods, but they take all my money. Well, I better go take my shot of apple cider vinegar. OH, and please go out and buy the book, "Motiv8n You" by Staci Boyer. It's packed full of amazing tips, quotes, information and inspirations.

Fail, Fail, Fail, and Win
Okay, so here is the thing. This blog is going to fail if I can only talk about working out. I mean, yes, I definitely want to blog about it, but I don't want to have to ONLY blog about that. How boring. And anyway, my routine is pretty constant, so every Monday is the same workout, and every Tuesday... yep... same thing!
So, speaking of things that are the same, here is something that is different. A few days ago, my husband invited me to go for a run with him. NOW, we are both very slow runners, and we don't usually run outside. Sooo, it took us 26 minutes to run 2.2 miles. But you know what, I felt amazing afterwards. It felt so good to accomplish something that I dont' usually accomplish. I felt grateful for the energy to finish it without stopping, I felt grateful for my heart, lungs, and legs that could still push me to complete it. I mean, one day I'm going to be 96 and well, let's face it, I may or may not be able to finish even two little miles. My arthritis is getting worse and I'm getting mad at my doctor. I just don't feel like she's working for me. She doesn't want to try anything natural, holistic, or even remove my ganglions. I'm losing strength, flexibility, and use of my hands. You'd think she would want to do more than just prescribe me drugs, but nooooo. I don't know if it's because I have cheap insurance or what. But she doesn't even discuss diet with me. Well, whatever, I guess I'll have to do my own research or switch doctors, although I will say, I've had over five doctors in the last eight years. Not good. Not good at all. It's just always the same, they just want to stick me on drugs. I'm 34, I do not want to be popping pills every day for the rest of my life. The other day, I forgot I was 34. I was typing in my options on an elliptical and I usually don't do an elliptical, but I needed to cool down and I was sick of the treadmill, so I jumped on there real quick, and typed in that I was 33. I had to do the math with my fingers. It was weird thinking I was 34 for a minute, that sounds so much older than 33.
Anyway, back to what I was saying. Then today, I didn't go to the gym because they're redoing the floors so all my classes have been canceled for the week. I pulled in extra hours for work and had a girlfriend over for coffee and chit chat this morning. Then the Jehovah's Witnesses stopped by, and I let them in - my husband thinks this is hilarious. He says I'm the only one who does this. I also let in the other people who believe in the Mother God. I am not afraid of other people's opinions, and I don't mind hearing what they have to say. I don't pretend to know much of anything, and I believe in what I believe. But anyway, as you can see my day was jam packed. Before I knew it my husband and son were home and hungry. So, I made salmon a big deal since I don't usually cook so healthy. Well, I don't usually cook, so just that is a big deal - right?
Anyway, I thought I was done for the day and I was ready to call it a day, until my husband said he'd like to go for a run. Well, I am NOT letting him leave me behind, so of course I invited myself along (since that door has now been open). It was amazing again! I really really enjoy going running with him. My son follows us on his bike... actually he leads the way. Alex is slower than me at running, but he saves all his energy to sprint at the end. I have to keep a constant pace or I won't finish. Today we did 2.5 miles in 29 minutes. Hey, we may not have gone any faster, but we went .3 miles longer! LOL!! Something is something, I'm celebrating every little accomplishment!
haven't blogged in a while, and boy do I have drama. My son has seasonal environmental allergies- BAD! I have to tell you all about that next time. Peace out!

Hello from the Library!
I'm at the library today! I had planned to meet my sister-in-law's husband here and we were going to do some English tutoring lessons, however, he's not here. :-( I don't blame him, we'd said noon was a good time, but he wanted me to call him to secure the appointment. I didn't do that because I can't make outgoing phone calls on my cell. right now. (Insert another sad face here.) It's a long drive to make if you're not sure that the lesson will be going on. So, here I am, blogging instead.
Next to me is my son, who didn't have school today. It's his fifth day home... spring break came early this year. On Friday, classes were canceled due to the heat wave, then was the weekend, yesterday was Labor Day Holiday, and today was some sort of teacher institute day. Alexander is using the computer as well. He's on the coolmathgames.com website. I figure it's educational and fun... a win-win for both of us.
I was catching up with my daughter on Facebook, but everyone says I need to give her more space. It's just that I freaked out yesterday because she hadn't been answering her phone, there haven't been any Facebook posts in days, and she is seven hours away. I kept remembering a "48 Hours" episode where a college girl was kidnapped, rapped, and murdered at her school, and well... my imagination got away from me. Is that right? Got away from me? Or got away with me? Hmmm... help me out someone.
I did workout this morning. They changed the schedule up for the fall and took away one of my favorite classes... Muscle Max. They replaced it with Step Jam. The class was really tough for me. I don't know the steps, have poor coordination, and the cardio was tough too. So, I only did half a class of that, and half a class of Zumba. I burned a total of 554 calories in one hour and three minutes. You know what gets me... the turns. I get all confused with which way I'm suppose to turn and jump over the step. And the thing is, if you get confused you have very little time to catch up because they're not stopping for you, they're on the next move. And if I got all confused and am facing the wrong way... well, it's just even more confusing. But, I've decided that I'm going to stick with this and try to learn how to Step.
I'm assuming that since my brother-in-law isn't here, and it's an hour after the time we originally had scheduled, that today's lessons are canceled. I'll have to do better with my communication going forward, I don't want him to think I'm irresponsible.
Now that I am here, I am looking forward to checking out books with my son and I'm going to take him for a walk around the lake behind the library. Afterwards we're going to go for a walk to the pond in our neighborhood as well and see if we can find the koi fish (a big beautiful orange koi fish that someone must have released when it got so big), and Monster. We let him go. Alexander cried a lot, but it was the right thing to do. It was a wild turtle and it would never have been happy in that tank at home. When we let him go, he swam halfway into that pond! And Churro, our dog, who hates getting wet, followed him right in!! Churro sniffed around and looked for him everywhere! He really liked that turtle! It was kind of sad because I could see how desperate he was to locate his little buddy. And in the meantime, Alexander was crying and crying. Oh, we must have looked like a real sight! Churro was all muddy and needed a bath when he got home. But Monster, he just poked his little head out from halfway out there in the pond, and whenever I called his name, he'd duck down and hide. He really didn't want to come back. That just enforced my feelings and thoughts that it was the right thing for him. Kassandra wanted to be let go. Monster wanted to be let go. But, Alexander... he says he's not leaving yet, but when he is ready to leave, he says, he's going to call me EVERY DAY. That's why I love this kid!!
Labor Day weekend was a blast! We had a birthday party for Ernie and Jaime (my brother and my sister's husband) on Friday. We had a bonfire and sweets. Saturday we had a babyshower for my cousin Eli and his girlfriend Kelly. We got rained on, and had tequila shots and drinks. Sunday we had my father-in-law's company picnic, we danced, played Bingo, and rode a mechanical bull. Monday, my sisters and their families came over and we watched Patrice O'Neal's comedy show, threw the football around, danced to LMFAO, and just had a plain good old time. There are pictures, but I've posted them already on facebook.

Rundowns
No new posts since Monday, so here's the rundown:
Tuesday: Muscle Max only, weights of only 5 lbs.; 30 minutes: 92 calories.
Wednesday: Rest Day
Thursday: Piloxing and Horizontal Boot Camp; one hour, 12 minutes: 574 calories.
Friday: Pilates and Turbo Kick; one hour, 54 minutes: 698 calories.
Saturday: Treadmill; 3 miles in 37:08 and total of 4 miles in 50 minutes.
So, here is what that rundown doesn't tell you:
* I had to take pain killers two days in a row. It was only partly for my arthritis, the other part was definitely due to the workout.
* Alex had to give me a massage twice this week! That is how sore I was.
* I woke up with knee pain and a leg cramp last night.
* I felt amazing after Friday's workout, I definitely struggled through the two classes, but it was a breakthrough to finish both classes.
* Jogging the first three miles today, although I ran them slow, was also not as difficult as it once was for me. When I first started running, my face would be beet red, and I even had to throw up once. This was no where near the truth today.
Definitely I notice that with perseverance there is improvement both in my ability and stamina. It is a boost in confidence and I've learned that maybe I do like to torture myself a little bit. Also the guilt I feel when I don't workout is due to the fact that I am truly committed to a five out of seven workout week. It feels amazing to get a good run in, or a good workout.
Alex joined me at the gym today, I absolutely love working out with my husband. As a treat after our workout we usually meet at the hot tub to talk and unwind. Today, since we were both feeling like we needed something a little extra we met at the pool. Alex did laps, but I basically just jumped around and floated on my back. When we first started at the gym, we'd also sit at the juice bar afterwards and order protein shakes, and a trip to the gym really was like a date for us.
This past week, one of my girlfriends joined me at the gym, she opened up a new membership and she's been such a good trooper. She did Piloxing with me on Thursday and Pilates on Friday. Way to go, Shaundra! I'm so excited that you'll be joining me and that we get to be workout partners! I'm also just excited for you. I love when someone starts working out. I know how great it makes me feel and how wonderful it's been for my life. I truly believe that exercise has healing powers and even spiritual ones. So I mean it when I say... congratulations!
This has been a jam packed weekend. Yesterday we celebrated my brother and brother-in-law's birthday with a bonfire at my parent's house. Today we had a baby shower for my cousin Eli and his girlfriend Kelly. It was so special talking with Kelly today and being a part of their journey and joy. I can't wait to meet their beloved baby girl come Thanksgiving time. Tomorrow we're joining Alex's family for his dad's company picnic and their 45th wedding anniversary.
As for now... I'm going to check my Facebook. I have to see if Kassandra's school's football team won their first game, and see if Kassandra posted anything on Facebook. Good night! Sweet dreams!

Tight Schedule
I'm running far behind today. I was famished after Core Commotion and thought I'd stop at the grocery store for a banana. But once there, I started wondering... what am I going to eat for lunch when I get home? I only have unhealthy food at home, so my pit stop turned into a full fledge grocery shopping spree. When I got home and my phone was already ringing with a business call, and before you know it, I'm knee deep in work... without even putting away the groceries. Now, I'm thinking I need to clean out the refrigerator before I put anything new in it. But, that will have to wait because I still have work to do. It's going to a long day for me. Thank goodness I did all that prepping yesterday. See, you guys thought I was crazy... but now I don't have to worry about my laundry, depilitating, or other chores and grooming habits. I just hope I get a little time with my son before I have to rush him to bed tonight, because it really will be a long day for me. I haven't even showered yet! (Too much information?)
Here is the description of Core Commotion straight off the my gym's website:
CARDIOVASCULAR
Here is the description of Core Commotion straight off the my gym's website:
CARDIOVASCULAR
XSport® Core Commotion
This class utilizes hand held weights to simulate real life movement patterns known as functional fitness. Executing multi-movement patterns in a low impact manner, focusing on building core strength and increasing range of motion is surely a safe and effective way to workout.
Ha! Let me tell you, simulating real life movements has never been harder! I used 7.5 lbs as my heavy weight, 5 lbs. for my medium weight. I also stayed for 20 minutes of Muffin Top Melt Away... isnt' that such a funny/cute name? I had to stay, this class is a must for me right now as that is my current complaint. And, according to my heart rate monitor, in one hour and 22 minutes, I burned 554 calories. My shoulders and arms are really feeling the burn today, and I already know I'm going to be sore for tomorrow's workout.
My sister inspired me yesterday. She admitted that a few months back she made a goal for herself to go the gym every day, Monday through Friday. She allows herself to eat whatever she wants, and doesn't feel guilty about it as long as she's done her workout for the day. Her goal was to get back to her pre-pregnancy weight, and she successfully accomplished that after five workouts a week, for three months. IF she can do it... I can do it!! Thanks for the inspiration and motiviation, Adri!
Here is the thing though, my advice for the day: with so many different classes and sports and activities, I really think that each person should find the workout that is the most enjoyable and fun for herself or himself. There is not point in hating your workout day in and day out, when there are sooo many choices. I mention this because I have friends who don't like to workout. I know! I've done things I hated, and guess what - I don't stick with it. I think what I hated most was struggling through the classes, or failing at them. I wasn't coordinated enough for step aerobics and I wasn't fit enough for it either. I can't keep my balance or am flexible enough for yoga. I might enjoy it every once in a while, but I'll definetely enjoy it more, once I'm better at it. So either, stick with it until you like it, or try something else! You may come back to it in three months and decide that now that you've built up your stamina or endurance or flexibility... you do love that class that gave you so much trouble before. I told you guys yesterday that I hated my reflection in the mirror when I was working out yesterday and it really threw me off - completely! I usually love that class! But it killed my enjoyment and fun. I don't want to see myself like that, and right now, that's what I'm going use and hold onto.
Know what I mean, jelly bean??

Viva La Woman!
Today was all about prepping! I know I'm not the only one who does this. I did all the laundry in the hamper so I don't have to worry too much about it during the week. I cleaned the bathrooms so I'm free to work and workout during the week. I depilated my legs, because who wants to do Pilates with hairy legs? I conditioned my hair, because during the week it's just wash and go, and for my workouts it's always pulled back in a pony tail. I polished my nails so I can look cute while I'm doing my barefoot Piloxing class! I chose a fun red glittery color! I'm so excited!
I did go to a Zumba class, but it was more for the fun of it than for the workout. I hated the reflection in the mirror today and it kept getting in the way of the fun. Boo!! Some days are like that. Some days, I love what I see, I love the improvement, I'm grateful for my body and health... and other days... I hate myself for eating all that apple pie!

Celebrity Status
I may not even take the day off. I am sore, but it feels so good! I mentioned yesterday that I hadn't done Pilates in a while, and my body is feeling it! It made me think of all the celebrities that love and praise this workout. I've heard that there is nothing better to strengthen your core. And the one celebrity that always pops into my mind who loves and swears by it is one of my favorites:
Michelle Obama, Kate Winslet, Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jennifer Garner, Jennifer Lopez, Rebecca Romijn, Rachel Weisz, Brooke Burke, and Liv Tyler are among a few who've been spotted or been known to include Pilates in their workout regimen. I'm sure if you asked some of your friends who workout regularly, they will also agree that they've at least tried it or are doing Pilates.
Here is a website with testimonials from other famous people: http://www.pilatescentral.co.uk/famous-pilate-devotees.html
Well, this was fun! Maybe I should do this for all of my workouts! Well, now you know what to expect for next week!
Pilates! And the stars that love it.
Jennifer Aniston!
I also read at one point or another that Pilates was developed for dancers and athletes to continue their workouts while they were injured. "Pilates is a body conditioning routine that helps to not only build flexibility, but also strength, endurance, and coordination in the legs, abdominals, arms and back." - wikipedia. It's very popular in the gyms and it seems like everyone is either doing Pilates, or interested, or at least tried it at one point or another.

Feeling Sore, Sore, Sore!
I woke up and didn't want to go workout today.
I thought I might ride my bike to the gym after taking Alexander to school. After all, Turbokick doesn't start until 10:30am today anyway. But I was feeling lazy, sleepy (coffee hadn't kicked in yet), tired, and sore.
I called my girlfriend/neighbor - who has been wonderful in giving me rides to the gym this week- to ask if she was going to workout and she motivated me and convinced me to go. She was heading there herself, so I didn't feel bad about asking her to wait for me. It's so lucky we workout at the same gym! AND it's been really cool driving in with her. I don't usually have friend time or chit-chat time until after noon. It's been a change of pace and it's been great to share the morning with her. If you're reading this - thank you so much, Elisa!
So, we did a Pilates class and... yikes! I haven't done Pilates in a while and my butt and legs were cramping up, falling asleep, and then crying in pain. Yes, I did take a pain killer this morning. It was suppose to be for my arthritis pain, but it might as well be for my soreness too!
After Pilates we stayed for half of Turbokick. I couldn't get my heart rate monitor to work at the beginning of Pilates. I don't know if you guys have this problem, but I think my strap isn't working right anymore. I checked the battery on the watch and it's functioning, so it has to be the strap. I actually have one built into my sports bra, which I love! I usually have to soak it really well before it picks up my heart rate, but even then sometimes it doesn't work right. Anyway, between the two classes I was able to log 54 minutes of my workout and registered that I burned 313 calories, 26% calories from fat. My average heart rate was at 127 and my maximum at 171. My watch is telling me that my Maximal Performance is Improving. It's so funny. I wonder what it would have said when I came home... had a sandwich, made a hot cocoa, and served myself two slices of Cinnabon toast. I should feel guilty, right? I do. But, one thing at a time. At least I'm hitting the gym again. I'll deal with my diet in a couple months.
We all struggle with something. For me, it's definitely my diet. I don't mind getting into the gym. Although, I do always compare myself to that front row. I've talked to you guys about the front row haven't I? These girls are committed! They're insane! They're there, every day. They know all the routines and moves. They lift 15 pounds weights when I'm struggling with the 7.5 pound weights - okay, even the 5 pound weights sometimes! And they eat right... it shows!! They all have amazing bodies. They all wear the best outfits - and the cutest ones too. UGH!! I want to BE them. Well, kind of. I want to be me.. but with their money, time, dedication, and jiggle-free bodies. If they don't know... now they know... they inspire me! They're my workout buddies, whether they know it, or like it, or not. I mean, I know I can count on them to be there, and they're just as good as the instructors. If I get lost and don't know what I'm doing, and I can't see the instructor, I just follow one of them. I wonder if they think I'm crazy for always staring at them. I hope they don't think I'm a lesbian. Nothing wrong with it, if you are. But I'm not. Just saying... I spend a lot of time looking at women and comparing techniques, bodies, strength, flexibility. I mostly spend a lot of time judging myself though. Wow, I hope I don't sound crazy. I swear, I'm only a little self-conscious. I'm sure my husband would disagree. Hmmmm... maybe I should stop talking for today. :-)
See ya!

It's Been a While
I feel bad that I haven't blogged in a while. I can come up with some excuses... but excuses are just that. They're not worthy of your time or mine. Still, a lot has been going on, which maybe would have been great for the blog, but I just didn't have the energy for it.
She rarely calls, and if she does, it's because she needs something. That makes me mad.
She doesn't share details with me, stories, her days or her adventures. That makes me sad. I must have failed to establish a friendship bond and failed at keeping the communication lines open. I love talking, and it's a compliment to me when someone likes sharing their life with me.
At home, we are still going through a transition. Last night was the first night since she left that I slept in my own bed. I've been sleeping on her bed... which sounds psycho, so let me explain. First of all, Alexander and Kassandra shared a room with a bunk bed. Alexander might be nine years old, and never really played with Kassandra because of their age difference, but every night, he waited for her before falling asleep on his top bunk bed. When Kassandra left, his "security blanket" left too. And for me, it was a relief to feel wanted and needed and a relief too because I couldn't just go to my room and sleep in my bed like it was any other night. My daughter was gone. Missing. That is the best way to describe how the house has felt since she left, like something is missing. Her, obviously. But not just her physical presence, her spark, her energy, her contribution - her spirit.
Well, I don't know how to describe all that exactly, but after 10 days of it, I thought, I NEED to get back to some normalcy. This past Monday both my kids started school. I am not excited to have the "brats" back to school as so many of my Facebook friends posted. I love my kids and their company and presence. However, I am always thrilled for each new school year - for the possiblities, and excited to be back on a schedule. I started working again, part-time from home. I work for a high school relations department for a local college, so I work closely with the high schools. Obviously, since they are off for the summers, so am I. Now, my days are back to a routine though. I wake up, get myself dressed in a workout outfit, get my son ready for school, make sure he has breakfast, ensure that he's groomed, that his homework is in his backpack, and off we go! After dropping him off at school, I like to workout. Then I rush home for lunch and start my work. Then it's time to pick him up, make dinner, do homework, rest/relax, check my work emails one last time again, and then really relax at home - because my husband is usually home by then.
This week, I did a Core Commotion class on Monday. I took it easy, I did not use heavy weights. I mostly stayed around 5 lbs. because I hadn't worked out in a while. On Tuesday, I did a Muscle Max class and Zumba. I am STILL sore from those workouts. Wednesday, I didn't workout out. This morning I did a Piloxing class. I hope to make it to the gym again tomorrow. I have been getting a ride to the gym though because... when it rains it pours, my brakes on my car need fixing. I am currently car-less. I don't know when I'll be able to get them fixed either because my paychecks are accounted for until October 13th!! Well, it is what it is. Wish me luck!
I'll start wearing my heart rate monitor to track the number of calories I burn. But I have to be fair and tell you I've been eating like crap. Yesterday, I had a large popcorn with large slushy at the movies all to myself. The week Kassandra left to college I ate apple pie every night because there was one left over from her party. There was also a crumb cake left over, so I've been having that too, and chocolate. Oh boy... well... let me just say this list can be long, and it's all bad bad bad.
Below are a few pictures from Kassandra's going away party. There are a ton more on Facebook if you want to see the full album.
Kassandra has moved away to college. We had a really great going away party for her, I was not the best host, I couldn't for the life of me generate myself to be welcoming or even hold a conversation. My friends and family will have to forgive me and understand. I don't even understand all the emotions I'm feeling. On August 14th my husband turned 37 years old and we dropped off Kassandra at the University of Missouri. Happy Birthday, Al! One down and one more to go! :-) For the record, I am really happy and proud that my daughter accomplished this goal and that this is the direction she wanted to take with her life. For some reason, I also am mad, sad, and upset. It doesn't make any sense.
(This picture was taken the night of Kassandra's going away party, the night before she left to school.)
(Here, Kassandra is waiting to be allowed into her dorm to start moving in and decorating.)

Family Time
I haven't been doing my exercise classes, so I feel a little bummed about that. I had to start taking my medicine again since my doctor yelled at me, so I've been feeling very drugged up and oversleeping. It throws my whole day off. I do feel like working out now, I'm feeling flabby and sluggish. I'm planning on doing my Turbokick class tomorrow, thank goodness it starts at 10:30am and not 9:30am since that gives me a better chance of making it there.
I'm just a few pages shy of finishing the book I'm reading so I'm rushing to get back to my book. I do want to share though the amazing time I had today with my in-laws. Alex had family in from Mexico, his uncle Javier and wife Gloria. We learned so much about his genealogy and family history. We even settled the mystery of Alex's parent's wedding date. Pepe, Alex's dad, has always said it was August, but didn't know the exact date, and his wife couldn't remember either. Well, it turns out this was a huge day because it was a double wedding with another of Pepe's brothers and they had even baptised Leti, Alex's sister, on the same day. We finally figured out by finding the marriage certificate, that they were married on August 29th, and will be celebrating their 45th anniversary later this month! WOW!! It feels amazing to know and be able to celebrate that. There were a lot of other discoveries, and I feel much closer to them now than ever before. The Gallegos men all married in their 30's, except for Pepe who was in his 20's. Pepe is one of seven children, they were five men and two women. Lupe's mother was from Morelia, Michoacan! Hello!! My parents are from Michoacan, not even an hour from Morelia. How cool is that? I love family. We're planning a family reunion in Mexico because of this conversation, and we're hoping to make it at Playa de Carmen in about a year from now. This should be exciting!

New week
It's a new week! I hope everyone had a weekend that either relaxed and rejuvenated or INVIGORATED. I have a very busy weekend. Here's a quick rundown:
Friday: My morning included a Turbokick class. Whoo-we! Talk about intense intervals, strength and endurance training, along with dance moves set to funky up-beat party music that create the ultimate cardiovascular FUN challenge. The night was spent with good family and friends at a club, dancing and drinking the night away till 2:00 in the morning.

Sunday: We went to Turtle Splash at spent the entire day splashing in the pool, swimming, going down the slides, laying out, and talking. Then we went to my parent's house for pizza and cupcakes and sang Happy Birthday to Alexander.
Today I did go to my Muscle Max class, however I could only do 5 lbs. My hands are very swollen, my shoulders are achy, my arthritis is a 7 out of 10, and my hands are breaking out in fluid-filled bumps. I'm frustrated!! I hate this!! Anyway, I couldn't do my Zumba class today because I had an interview today at an insurance company and the people were really cool. We had a great "possibility conversation"! Alex and I snuck off to a little date afterwards to Dairy Queen... sssshhhhh... don't tell the kids. We'll take them next time. Now that Pretty Little Liars has been watched and enjoyed, I'm going to go finish my book.
I didn't weigh myself today, but I will tomorrow. I don't expect to have lost any weight, but I'm hoping to not have gained any either. My cousin, Rene, did remind me on Facebook today that "Doing just cardio will make you skinny fat. That is all." My current philosophy... doing exercise of any kind, for any amount of time is a success in and of itself. There are many people who don't exercise on a regular basis... I for one, don't do it on a daily basis. But our body's cells either grow or decay and it's all in our choices for the day. We were built to move, exercise is just a signal that tells our cells to grow instead of die or fade. So every day, we just CHOOSE. It can be fun, it can be easy. There are a million different ways to MOVE your body. I'm going to keep sharing my favorite and my routine, and I hope to hear from some of you out there too.

Saturday: We celebrated my little monkey's 9th birthday by going to breakfast at IHOP (because he wanted to go somewhere where they'd sing happy birthday to him). Then he got to choose new shoes, we had to go to three different stores, and in the end he bought his THIRD pair in a row of black hightops. He keeps outgrowing them, and I think he'll choose something NEW, but noooo, he goes for the same thing each time. Afterwards we went to Toys R Us to pick a toy of his choice. And finally we ended up at our niece's going away to college party.
Sunday: We went to Turtle Splash at spent the entire day splashing in the pool, swimming, going down the slides, laying out, and talking. Then we went to my parent's house for pizza and cupcakes and sang Happy Birthday to Alexander.
Monday: Well... I slacked off. I had every intention of going to workout... and do laundry for that matter. But I ended up doing very little. I went to a doctor appointment where I was yelled at for not taking my medicine and I recommitted to taking them. UGH!! I have to take 2 to 3 pills daily and that is the minimum! We went on a nice family walk and I read over 100 pages and will be finished with my book by tonight.

Double Dose
Today was a great workout day. I woke up and went to a Piloxing class this morning. If you haven't tried Piloxing yet, it's a fusion of pilates and boxing. It's sleek, sexy, powerful! Each class ends with those words. It's a tough workout but since it's fun, it makes the time go by fast. My girlfriend/Zumba instructor was at Piloxing this morning, and I noticed she had a special class that night. So, I committed to coming back that evening for her class, I've missed Mary and I've missed Zumba, so it was a great opportunity that I couldn't miss. Zumba was awesome, we used weights for the first time, and wow - one tiny little change and it seriously amped up the class! Zumba is a Latin-inspired dance fitness program. Depending on your instructor, it can be a lot of fun! I'm lucky to have two great Zumba instructors at my gym.
Oh before I forget, guess what?? Two things: first, my husband came home from his out of state job early! Woohoo! Secondly, I won that Giveaway Contest from the Thinspirations Blog! I feel so lucky and promise to share any new ideas/experiences from The Hungry Girl's Recipe Book with you guys.
I'm going to make this short and sweet, but on a good note, I just want to say, that instead of feeling tired and drab like I have been the last few days, I feel ENERGIZED and I even have enough energy for a third workout! See, it was great that I took that six day break and did a low intensity workout yesterday. I'm all set for my Turbokick class tomorrow morning! Bring it on!!
I hope you guys are feeling the inspiration. What workouts do you like?? There are so many different things out there. My next-door neighbor is doing a Bar class? She looks INCREDIBLE after only two weeks of doing it, and she's waking up early do it... which shows how much she's enjoying it! Also, Amy I loved your comment about your motivation to go swimming and how great you felt afterwards. I'm feeling that way right now! So proud of all of us!!!

One Step Forward, One Step Back
I went to a Pilate's class today, just for this blog! Whoo-hoo, me! I was not able to muster up enough energy to wake up early enough or go to a Cardio Kickboxing class... but Pilate's... was perfect! It was just what I needed: a low impact workout. One step forward!
Also, to continue my healthy streak, I had a green smoothie for dinner. I used a banana, frozen strawberries, frozen pinneaples, and kale. (If anyone has any other wonderful green smoothie recipes, I'd love to try them. Please share!)
Then, I discovered my husband's Cinnabon Cinnamon Bread - OH MY GOSH!!! He's not going to be home for a couple days and I just wanted something sweet... I thought, "this bread is going to go bad if someone doesn't eat it". Again, OH MY GOSH! I can not believe I've lived in the same house as this bread for as long as I have. It is the most amazing cinnamon bread "with cinnamon bursts" ever!! I was going to have ONE piece of bread, but here I am toasting my third piece. One huge step back.
On a positive note, here's what else was happening in my home today. Alexander and his friend, Briana, acted out a scene that they created for me. It was so awesome to watch, especially since I studied television production, and this totally reminded me of playing "producer".
Well, now that I am seeing this video, I feel that I need to explain my doors. I STARTED painting the frame, but I haven't finished yet. I am not sure why I lost interest half-way through... but I'm embarrased and I'm going to finish it BEFORE the kids go back to school. Promise.
Aren't they cute, though? Can you hear the audio?
Okay, I'm going to go do some reading now. I'm reading "Mine are Spectacular" and I'm not loving it yet, but it was in interlibrary loan and I feel like I should read it. My girlfriend, let me borrow the book, "The Help" which is great so far, but I can't read two books at once, so I'm going to finish "Mine are Spectacular" first.

Ethical Blogging?
What I threatened, (sort of) kidding around with my husband, "You better treat me right or I'll blog about it!"
Husband: "Oh, right because you have so many followers. Let me call Katrysse and tell her my side of the story."
Me: (squint eyes menacingly) "Ooooouuuu... (pause, think, nothing) you REALLY got me there!"
- I say this sarcastically, as if it wasn't a great comeback or threat, he didn't win this round... see, my eyes are still squinted.
Why can't I come up with any clever comebacks?
First of all, Kat, thank you my dear friend for being my one and only follower. I know beyond a doubt that I can count on you no matter what. You are a loyal and fierce friend. I absolutely adore you.... always.
Secondly, what are we going to do about my husband? Alex is clever and witty. I took him out of the south side, I had to have him because I am captivated by his quick wit and sense of humor, he thoroughly entertains me and it never gets boring. BUT can I blog about him and tell on him, or would that be crossing some unethical/ethical blogging rule? What about all the other people that I come across, is it okay to talk about them? How much is okay to tell? How much do you want to know? I was asking myself these kinds of questions today, and didn't come up with a really good answer. I think I'm going to wing it. I'm going to ask you to tell me when I've gone too far. You can just say... "Hey, red flag, maybe you shouldn't have gone there." Would that work for you? It works for me. My sister says that I like to be controversial. My husband says I talk too much and that I should really stop to think before I blurt things out. I think... that I sound controversial because I am so open-minded and empathetic that I can relate to two opposing parties simultaneously. In regards to my husband's point of view... well, I can't do anything about that. I've tried to shut up... but I can't! I have things to say and if I stay quiet too long I get grumpy. I like to talk... and yes it gets me in trouble, but only because I can't talk as fast as I think, and so sometimes I leave things out, or say them wrong, and then I didn't get my point across accurately. AND because people have to understand that most of the time, I am not talking out of intellect, but out of my emotions, feelings, and commitments. Also, I'm fickle. I can passionately talk about one thing today, and I could go home and change my mind because in all honestly there is no black in white in my world. Most things fall in a gray area, so although something could be really really bad in my opinion, if I change just a couple variables, I may be okay with it and passionately talk the other way about it tomorrow.
So, back to the point of why I started blogging. My daily activity level today was bland. I actually did go to the gym today, but I didn't make it there until 9pm. That's a whole 12 hours after the time I normally like to be there and usually exercise at. [I know that's improper English, so if anyone want to tell me how to not end a sentence with "at", please rephrase that last sentence for me and educate me.]
I don't want to make a ton of excuses for me, but what can I say? I'm human. I'm not feeling it. This morning, I spent time with my husband before he left on his work trip. I also took care of some pending business. We DIDN'T sell the car though! Boooo! That deal fell through, and now I have a ton of work for myself tomorrow regarding reposting it and calling back all the other interested parties. But, I did take my son on a leisurely bike ride to the library. He checked out some books and a PlayStation 3 game. I borrowed a Dean Koontz book for my husband to listen to on his car ride. Since I'm not done reading "The Help" or "Mine are Spectacular", I only got myself a couple movies. I rented Burlesque and Little Fockers.
I timed us to the library, it's 2.47 miles from my house and it took us 17.25 minutes to get there. We had some red lights, okay? I wore my heart rate monitor and it said I burned 64 calories. Woop-tee-doo!!
Then when I finally did get to the gym at 9pm, my knees hurt, my hands were swollen, and I still didn't want to actually work out. So, I drove myself there, just to WALK on the treadmill! I walked 3.7 miles, and burned 209 calories (according to my heart rate monitor, although the treadmill thought it should have been closer to 268 calories). Again, woop-te-doo!, but you know what, at least I went. I had to get back in there, now I'll have a better chance of wanting to go back tomorrow. I did weigh myself, and I'm still at 138 pounds. But, my body is already changing. I don't like this 138 pounds. It's fat and not muscle. Wait four weeks... when we're back on the school schedule, I'm hitting the gym hard! Yeah, baby! That 138 would never have looked so good! :-)
Tomorrow, I am going to have a green smoothie. That will kick things off and put things right. I'm thinking, banana, strawberry, and kale. I'll let you know!
Night!

I'm in Trouble
This started off as an exercise journal/ fitness log, and oh oh! I haven't worked out! It's going on four or five days, this is no good! And I have been perusing Facebook and to my dismay have found that I look chunkier/thicker in my most recent pictures. Ahhh, yeah! That happens when a girl stops working out for as long as I have. During the school year, I was on a roll! Drop off my son at school and go straight to the gym to hit the 9:30am class four days a week. But summer, well, that's a tough one for me. Not only does my son not like going to the gym on a frequent basis, but I dont' work during the summer, so I watch my gas like it's a precious commodity. Also, there are all kinds of fun things going on, parks, camps, people visiting from out of town, family in from Mexico, fairs, carnivals, parties, picnics, you name it!
The truth is... if I have to be completely honest, I have been feeling myself getting wider. AND I think I do it on purpose. I know this sounds totally crazy, but I must have a blind spot about this because I sabotage my own success. I don't know why. It first came up when I was doing one of the seminars of the Landmark Forum. I never really quite got the breakthrough to discover the why, it was enough for me to see that I was even doing it. It's like I'm fearful of success. I kind of like staying mediocre, it's comfortable here. I know what to expect. It's not just about my weight, it's about everything. Is that not sick?? Ugh, I hate myself for it, and still I can't change it. Or I won't change it, or something. Maybe I should go back to Landmark and have a breakthrough in it. Go there with that one intention. I may be assuming you know what the Landmark Forum is, if you don't know it's a three day weekend event that costs a pretty penny (although it's not in the thousands range) and works with ontology. Basically, it's the study of being. I find it awe-inspiring that you can put two individuals in the same circumstance and they'll both BE different about it. This happens all the time, and it's not as amazing as it seems but it is something to think about. Why do you act the way you act? Why do you assume what you assume? Why do you do what you do? Why are you the way you are? Especially knowing that you don't have to be. That someone else in your circumstance or exact same situation may do things differently. And really all of our lives are an accumulation of these choices. These patterns that go on and on, on a daily basis, without us even thinking about it anymore. Well, I love these kinds of seminars. It tickles my fancy! People think I'm a little cucko over Lucky Charms of Cocoa Puffs or whatever, but any time that there is an opportunity for genuine discovery, growth, and possibility, I get really excited. I think in that fashion, I will always be a student.
Lately, it just seems that it takes more and more, bigger and bigger, for me to get excited about. Don't get me wrong, I will go all googoo and melt into tears over seeing a flower grow in an unexpected place, or watching the sun shine through the clouds. Gosh, I'm an emotional roller coaster sometimes, but every once in a while, I swear I can be at peace with the world and hear God's intention in all of it. If you haven't noticed, I am a bit spiritual. I love God. But, you won't find me at church on Sunday. (Maybe I'll have a breakthrough in that some day.) Right now, I need to get my butt moving so I don't lose any more muscle or gain any more fat. I could finish blogging, get my workout clothes ready, and go workout. Wouldn't you be proud of me if I did that??
Want to know something I did today, that is not in my character? I put our Isuzu Rodeo on craigslist. We've been talking about it, and considering it, mulling it over, and thinking about it. But here is the thing, we don't need three cars with Kassandra going to college in a few weeks.... (pause/break)
As I was writing this I had the most delightful surprise, two unexpected lovely visitors, my parents! It's rare for my parents to visit me, so I went to open the door and obviously stopped writing. I'll finish telling you guys all about the truck tomorrow, I didn't go to workout today. So tomorrow, or since it's already midnight, in a few hours, I definitely will. More about this and that tomorrow, no time to spellcheck or re-read anything so excuse any errors. Good night, and sweet dreams!

Advice to my Daughter
Why is it my teenage daughter will not listen to me? I KNOW, beyond a doubt, that I am not the smartest or wisest person around, but I have a little experience and something to say. I feel like if I died tomorrow, that girl would not know who I am. I mean... yeah, she knows - but would she implement everything I tried to teach her?
Here are a few things that I'd want her to know:
1. People are not always going to treat you kindly or fairly, heck they may even be cruel. Instead of feeling resentment and hatred, feel compassion for that other person - you never know the life they've lead or circumstances they are dealing with. Discard any negative feelings immediately. It turns people ugly and mean.
2. Just because I believe number one, and think you should, doesn't mean you should let people walk all over you either. There are people out there who are "going to get theirs". Don't get in a pissy match with them, but stand your ground and have respect for yourself. Stand tall, walk tall, head held high. You are an amazing person. You are unique and the stories and life you've lived make you a gem and a treasure. I believe this of almost any person who is trying to live life right and within the social norm.
3. There is a time and a place for everything. Don't wait until you're 34 to fall over drunk at your aunt's house thinking you're in a sorority in college. Just saying! If you're going to have pink highlights and feathers in your hair (which I think are very cool), don't do it when you have a job interview at a financial company - for example.
4. Looks are important, and whether you like it or not, people will judge you based on your looks. Every once in a while, look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself, "What does my haircut/color/style say about me? What does my outfit say about me? What does my hygiene say about me?" It's okay to be self-expressed and colorful in your clothing (it's better than expressing yourself in tattoos, which are permanent.) There's just that (back to number 3) there's a time and a place for everything. If you dont' know what your looks are saying about you, ask someone you trust.
5. Do what you love, always, unapologetically. Do what truly inspires and motivates you. But be watchful of vices and unhealthy habits.
6. Friends and advice are wonderful and amazing blessings from God, but they're not ALL good . Be aware and careful of the advice you hear and receive. Let God guide you.
7. Take care of your family, always. They won't necessary like it or appreciate it all the time - especially siblings. But you do it anyway. Like my good friend, Katrysse tells her kids, "Love each other, protect each other, and take care of each another".
8. People will always have something to say, they'll always have opinions. You may find yourself in the center of one of these "controversies" some day. Know that since people will talk anyway, you can feel free to give them something to talk about. Be the diva at the party. Be the princess. Be the rockstar. Be whatever it is you want to be. Let them talk. I love the saying, "every truly happy person is somewhat delusional." Be delusional! But always remember first to be kind, be polite, be courteous, be respectful. Remember to make your momma proud, "if your mom could see... would she beam with pride, roll her eyes, or hide for shame?"
9. Follow the commandments. Or at very minimum Jesus' great commandment, which encompasses all of them anyway. Matthew 22:35-40.
10. Lady Gaga was brilliant only once, when she said, "don't be a drag, just be a queen." And she's right. No one likes a person with a bad attitude. But every woman should feel like a queen. Buy the dress, buy the shoes, wear the accessories, go on the vacation that you've been dreaming of. If someone unexpectedly pops up with a camera, flash your best smile! Paparazzi! Decorate your home like cameras are going to roll through any minute. Live huge.
11. When you choose a man to marry... you are marrying into his family, lifestyle, and choices. His problems become your own. Respect him and the life he's lived as well as the one he's meaning to live. Make sure he feels the same way about you. We marry once. That divorce crap is nothing to mess around with. It hurts people, especially when there are kids involved. It doesn't mean it doesn't have to happen sometimes or that it's not better for some people, but that's why you don't rush into marriage either. (Now, I don't want people getting all mad with me about this point, but if I wish any type of marriage for my children is the lifelong, healthy, nurturing, loving, respectful, and forever kind.)
12. When you raise your children, remember everything we've talked about. Raise them the way Wita would have raised them. Like it or not, you are your mother's daughter, and I'm mine. And I'm even present to being grandma's child. We're more alike that we know.
13. Don't live in fear.
14. Workout, and don't eat junk. If you love yourself, you'll take care of yourself. Don't forget to dance.
15. Of course there's more for me to say... there always is. Be patient with your mother. For now... isn't this such a great start? And I'm at the point where I'm repeating myself. So, I'll let it go for now.
(Sigh)... Phew! I feel better now. If I die, someone please share this with my daughter. And if I forgot something, would you please share it with me? What would you have included in your list?

The Way of the Tea
I am not a regular tea drinker. I usually enjoy coffee, although not the fancy lattes or frappuccinos or cappuccinos or even espressos. I'm a simple girl, I like regular coffee with cream and sugar. Lately though, I have been reading about how terrible sugar is for the body. If you haven't read Alicia Silverstone's book, The Kind Diet, I have to recommend it; it's a great read. Even if you are not interested in becoming a vegetarian, which I am not, it does teach a lot about foods, the food industry, animal cruelty, etc. My sister asked me to read it, and the first time, I couldn't even get through the first couple chapters, I was that close-minded about it. Vegetarians just seem so passionate about their stand and way of life that it's a bit intimidating to me. And the way they do it with so much vigor and enthusiasm, kind of annoyed me to be honest. The second time I tried to read the book, I ended up loving it! In the end, the biggest change I made was my choice to substitute white sugar with Truvia which is a natural sweetener from the stevia leaf - for those who like to count calories you'll be happy to know it has zero! It does have an aftertaste to it, which I wasn't use to it in my coffee. I solved that problem by adding just a dash of Truvia and then adding maple syrup. It was perfect that way!
But today, in honor of the fact that the male testosterones have won in the household and the two males in the house are watching Ip Man, I am drinking tea. I made my husband a green tea, sweetened with honey and Truvia and I am drinking a Country Peach Passion Herbal Tea... yum!! I sweetened mine with honey and Truvia also. My brother has a book about Tea Life and Tea Mind, I think that is the actual title of the book, and it's interesting that there are four basic principles to the Way of the Tea. The four basic principles are harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility. I am humbled by this way of thinking and honor my cup of tea in the same way.
Oh my goodness... just now I caught a snap and flash of a camera... I turn around an my husband is smiling at me from the couch. He tells me, "just taking a picture of history." This is why I love this man. It doesn't matter what I decide to do or put my crazy little mind to, this man supports me in anything I want to try. When we were dating and I told him I wanted to skydive, he climbed into the little plane all white-faced and silent with fear. When I told him I didn't enjoy my promotion and career and would rather stay home and raise our son and be home for my daughter, he allowed me to quit my job and do just that. Once my family was going on a tropical vacation to Cancun and he couldn't get out of work but surprised me with two tickets (one for me and one for my son, Kassandra was in high school and couldn't pick up and leave as easily) he presented them to me just days before the departure date. It was the most unselfish and loving gift anyone besides my parents had ever given me. Now, he's snapping pictures of me blogging. And then people wonder why I wish all my single friends would find a love like mine.
And speaking of loves of mine, Kassandra just walked in with Monster. Who is Monster? Well, a western painted turtle that she found by the mailbox this morning and has been traveling everywhere with her all day today. She named him and posted pictures of him before I could even say, "no you can't keep him." And isn't she too old for this? I would expect this from my eight-year-old son, not my eighteen-year-old daughter who is one month shy of leaving to college. What am I going to do with a turtle? My son is just as enthusiastic about Monster as she is. I have to call the nature center tomorrow and find out if it's okay to keep him, how they live, and what they eat. I also probably should call the pet store and see what they can tell me. How do I get myself into these situations? At least it's not a stray cat! We're allergic to those.
Below: Pictures of Kassandra holding her beloved and rescued Monster (since she swears he would have gotten run over had she not come in the nick of time and saved him from this disastrous fate), and my honey and me.
